Who am I you ask? Well the name’s Andrew and I’m a husband to the most beautiful wife, then I’m a goofy dad to a crazy little dude, and lastly a blogger/photographer/finance guy/hockey player/soccer player/surfer/etc.
And welcome to my BLOG!
My story truly begins August 2nd 2014… My wedding day! Why you might ask? Because life got a lot more complicated from that day on. But, in a positive way I would have never expected.
You see, getting married changes a kid. Sometimes you fall flat on your face and get knocked off the rails and fall into a pit of despair never to get out again. And other times, you fall flat on your face and get knocked off the rails and you learn from your mistakes and keep moving! Which I feel like I’ve been able to do (more times than I can count!).
Well, as time went on (and many learned lessons later) the next “fall flat on your face moment” happened. We were going to have a little boy! My wife Melanie and I were excited and scared beyond belief! We were going to bring a little bundle of joy into our lives AND we were going to be 100% in charge of his safety and wellbeing… Terrifying right?? (Parents, you know what I mean).
As the pregnancy went on we had the real “knock you off the rails moment.” Our boy was going to be born with a congenital heart disease (hypoplastic left heart syndrome to be specific). There aren’t many words to describe how we felt when we heard the news; but, we definitely had hope.
After our son was born, we endured the stress of watching our newborn son go through open heart surgery, tests, and other various procedures. And now, after all is said and done (and thanks to many prayers and awesome surgeon), our son Eli is doing AMAZING!
Since then, my wife and I have been plugging along and enjoying life as we go. Being a dad is tough… but that’s why I started writing about it. I told myself, “Hey, this dad thing is hard. So why not start writing about it so you can be somewhat capable.” And so, here I am! Blogging and making videos about the life of the Hey Dude Dad.
Why the “Hey Dude” Dad you ask? It’s a short story actually. I just say it a lot when I want my son’s attention when I do something Dad-ish…. Exhibit A below…
Thanks for stopping by!
